Overview
Prep lists plan what recipes to prepare and in what quantities. They are perfect for scheduling kitchen prep work — define the recipes, set the number of portions, and let Cucinovo calculate every ingredient you need.
Each item on a prep list is a recipe with a portion count. Cucinovo expands each recipe into its raw ingredients, accounting for sub-recipes and quantities, giving you a complete shopping list of materials.
Creating a Prep List
Go to Prep Lists in the sidebar under the Procurement section.
Click the New Prep List button to start planning.
Give your list a name (e.g., “Wednesday Prep”) and set the date when preparation will happen.
Search for a recipe by name, select it, and set the number of portions to prepare. Repeat for each recipe you need.
Add any notes for the prep session, such as special instructions or priority items.
Click Save to store your prep list. Cucinovo immediately calculates the ingredients needed.
Ingredient Calculation
When you view a prep list, Cucinovo calculates all the ingredients needed across all recipes. The calculation accounts for:
- Ingredient quantities — scaled to the number of portions you set for each recipe.
- Sub-recipes — recursively expanded into their raw ingredients, so nothing is missed.
- Waste percentages — if an ingredient has a waste factor, the calculation includes the extra quantity needed.
The result is a complete list of raw materials with quantities, costs, and supplier groupings — ready to send to a shopping basket.
Adding to a Basket
Click Add to Basket to send the prep list's calculated ingredients to a shopping basket. The items are tracked with source type “prep”, so you can always trace where each ingredient came from.
You can add a prep list to an existing draft basket alongside grocery lists or events, or create a new basket for it.
Generated from Events
Events can auto-generate prep lists. When you create an event and generate its prep list, the recipes and scaled portions are automatically added — no manual entry needed.
See the Events documentation for details on how guest scaling works and how to generate a prep list from an event menu.
