Ingredients

Learn how to add, edit, and organize ingredients — the building blocks of every recipe in Cucinovo.

Overview

Ingredients are the building blocks of every recipe in Cucinovo. Each ingredient has a name, base unit (g, ml, or pc), unit price, optional category, allergens, and supplier information.

Ingredients are shared across all recipes in your organization. When you update an ingredient's price, every recipe that uses it automatically reflects the new cost.

Ingredient Fields

Each ingredient in Cucinovo has the following fields:

  • Name — the ingredient name (minimum 2 characters). Must be unique within your organization.
  • Base Unit — the fundamental unit of measurement: g (grams), ml (millilitres), or pc (pieces). This determines how quantities are stored internally.
  • Display Unit — the unit shown in the interface. For example, kg or g for weight-based ingredients, L or ml for liquids, and pc for countable items.
  • Price — the unit price in your organization's currency (e.g., €5.00 per kg). This is used to calculate recipe costs.
  • Allergens — multi-select from the 14 EU-regulated allergens (gluten, dairy, nuts, etc.). Allergen information propagates to any recipe that uses the ingredient.
  • Supplier — supplier name and SKU for procurement tracking. Full supplier management is available on the Pro plan for restaurants.
  • Category — optional grouping for organization (e.g., Dairy, Produce, Spices).

Unit System

Cucinovo supports three measurement systems: g/kg (weight), ml/L (volume), and pc (pieces).

Internally, all quantities are stored in base units — grams, millilitres, or pieces. Display units convert these for readability. For example, if an ingredient's base unit is g and the display unit is kg, a quantity of “1000g” appears as “1 kg” in the interface.

Prices convert the same way. A price of €0.005 per gram displays as €5.00 per kg when the display unit is set to kilograms.

Choosing the Right Base Unit

Pick the base unit that matches how you buy the ingredient. Flour is typically sold by weight (g/kg), olive oil by volume (ml/L), and eggs by count (pc).

Price History

When you update an ingredient's price, the previous price is saved automatically. You can view the full price history timeline on the ingredient's detail page.

Price history helps you track cost changes over time, identify seasonal trends, and make informed purchasing decisions. Each entry records the old price, the new price, and the date of the change.

Managing Ingredients

The Ingredients page shows a searchable, sortable table of all ingredients in your organization. Use the search box at the top to find ingredients by name.

Click any row to open the ingredient detail page where you can edit fields, view price history, and see which recipes use that ingredient.

To add a new ingredient, click the New Ingredient button. Fill in the required fields (name, base unit, price) and optionally set the category, allergens, and supplier.

Deleting Ingredients

You can only delete an ingredient if it is not used in any recipe. If the ingredient is referenced by one or more recipes, you must remove it from those recipes first.
